چکیده

The popularity of digital music has recently rapidly increased. The widespread use on computers and portable players and its availability through the Internet have modified the interaction issues from availability towards choice. The user is confronted daily with an enormous amount of music. This situation shapes the need for the development of new user interfaces to access and retrieve music that takes full advantage of the music being digital. This paper reports the results of various user tests aimed at investigating how music listeners organize and access their digital music collection. The aim of the study is to investigate novel interaction concepts to access and retrieve music from large personal collections. The outcome of these studies was an interaction concept based on the notion of similarity of music items (artists and songs). This concept was further refined and developed into a demonstrator eventually tested with users.

MUSICtable: A Map-based Ubiquitous system for Social Interaction with a digital music Collection

Popular acceptance of the mp3 digital music standard has greatly increased the complexity of organizing and playing large music collections. Existing digital music systems do not adequately support exploration of a collection, nor do they cater to multi-user interaction in a social setting. In this paper, we present the design of a ubiquitous system that utilizes spatial visualization to suppor...

Proxemic Interactions with Multi-artifact Systems

The artifact ecologies emerging from an increasing number of interactive digital artifacts, capable of communicating with each other wirelessly, have created an interaction space where software applications are no longer limited by the physical boundaries of a single device. With the new opportunities follows an added complexity that interaction designers need to address. Previous work have sho...

Multimodal Music Retrieval for Large Databases Submitted to Special Session: Novel Techniques for Browsing in Large Multimedia Collections

In this contribution we present a novel multi-modal access to large MP3 music data-bases. Retrieval can be either fulfilled in a content-based manner or by keywords. As input modalities speech by natural language utterances or singing, and manual interaction by handwriting, typing or hardkeys are used. In order to achieve especially robust retrieval results and automatically suggest music to th...

Concepts of Multi-artifact Systems in Artifact Ecologies

The artifact ecologies emerging from the increasing number of interactive digital artifacts, capable of communicating with each other, have created a situation where software applications no longer need to be limited by the physical boundaries of a single artifact. In order to take advantage of the full potential of this situation, we first need to establish a common understanding of the intera...
